SCRAPBOOK CLUB & CARD CLUB STARTING IN JANUARY!

If you are in the Minneapolis area, I will be starting new Scrapbook Club and a Card club in January.

Club is a way for friends to get together monthly for fun, new techniques, ideas. It is a great way to meet others who share the passion of scrapping/stamping as much as you!

What is Scrap Club?
Each month these clubs will be based on our beautiful Workshops On The Go in the current Idea book, you will create either the Scrapbook pages OR the WOTG addtional project at the workshop, and will have enough product to do the remaining project, PLUS additional projects listed on my website.

What is Card Club?
You will create 5 Unique Cards each month, learning new techniques, and also occasionally utilizing the Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge into the designs. These cards will be some of my own design, and some ideas pulled from the Close to My Heart Idea Books. All cards will feature stamping and embellishments.

When you use your Art Philosophy cartridge to cut out an envelope for your card, you can make an easy lining for your envelope by cutting the same envelope ¼” smaller on a coordinating B&T or cardstock. Trim off the side and bottom flaps and glue the lining inside the outer envelope before inserting your card. Little details like this can have a big impact on the recipient.

Shape Instructions: For the square envelope, push the “font layer” feature key, followed by shift, and the second key from the right on the top row. The size dial was set at 4 ¾” for this envelope, and 4 ½” for the lining. Refer to page 29 in the Cricut booklet.

In today’s artwork you can see one of the several decorative borders that you’ll find on the Art Philosophy cartridge.

Shape Instructions: Cut the numbers border by pushing the “Font Layer” feature key, and then the key in the lower left corner of the keypad overlay. This was cut at 1”.

They say that no two snowflakes are alike, but that isn’t the case with the Art Philosophy cartridge. Add these hassle-free snowflakes to your projects for a touch of winter beauty.

Shape instructions: Cut the snowflake by setting the size dial to 3 ¼”, pressing shift, and then the second key on the top row. Decorate it with a layer or a stamp image – try Snowflakes (D1480) for a perfect match.

Today’s artwork is just cute enough to eat up! The cupcake and its cupcake wrapper holder turn out perfectly when you use the Art Philosophy cartridge, and the frosting swirls were stamped using one of the stamp sets that comes as part of the Art Philosophy collection.

Shape instructions: Set the size to 2 ½”; push shift, and the key in the bottom right corner of the keypad. Press the same key with the “Layer” feature key to get the cupcake wrapper.

These lovely leaves are stamped with some more fabulously coordinating stamp images, found on the Harvest Happiness stamp set (C1463). And while I love the effect of the stamping on these leaves, they also look gorgeous cut out on colored cardstocks or Background and Texture papers – no stamping required!

Shape instructions: You’ll see these three different leaves on pages 34, 56, and 62 of the cricut booklet. You’ll find the size instructions listed on the carrier sheet of the Harvest Happiness stamp set, which appears on page 35 of this year’s Autumn / Winter Idea Book.

Don’t you just love a few well-placed butterflies? These beautiful wings work wonders for this door hanger. And yep, they were all cut with the Cricut.

Shape Instructions: Add an intricate layer to your butterfly wings by pressing the “layer” feature key, then shift, and then the fifth button from the left on the fourth row. The large butterfly on this project is 2”. See page 55 in the Art Philosophy booklet.

Watercolor Spritz
Here’s a technique that will give you watercolor-look, especially when stamping with solid stamps.

To use this technique:

Ink up any stamp, solid or open. (Results will be more dramatic with solid stamps.)
With a spray bottle filled with water, spray a fine mist into the air. Holding your stamp, rubberside up, about 1’ below the mist, let the mist lightly sprinkle on your inked stamp.
Stamp image.
Note: Work with this technique until you achieve the desired results. Your image, when stamped, will have a watercolored look to it. (Too much mist will result in a smeared stamped image so go lightly on the mist!)

Clear Stamps vs Rubber Stamps

Q: What’s your take on rubber stamps vs. clear stamps?

Well,as you know, I’ve championed both—I love stamping and I’ll be foreverpassionate about the art. Rubber stamps have a place in my heart andalways will. But they don’t have a place in my studio anymore,truthfully. I think anyone who uses My Acrylix® stamps will agreewith me that they’re superior. They’re lighter and easier to store andorganize than rubber stamps. I also love being able to combine multipleimages or spell a word on a single block: clear stamping saves time andthe results are always gorgeous.

But the undeniable benefit isthat you get perfect ink coverage and precise placement in your designEVERY SINGLE TIME. Just peek through that clear acrylic block to ensureyour positioning and ink are ideal, and you’re good to go. You simplycan’t get that by mounting an opaque rubber stamp to a clear block.

Speakingof rubber on clear blocks: recently, a competitor of ours [Stampin' Up] reaffirmedtheir decision to stay with rubber instead of following the revolutionto clear stamps. I think it’s great that they’ve chosen to focus ontheir roots. That said, I want to be “clear” about one thing: we’vemanufactured literally millions of stamps in BOTH vulcanized rubber andclear photopolymer, and there is no doubt that My Acrylix clear stampscan hold more fine details to give a crisper, more intricate stamp thanrubber. Absolutely.

Additionally, the top-quality polymer weuse and the production process we follow produce a stamp set that willlast a lifetime. There was nothing easy or simple about transitioningour business from old wood-and-rubber to clear My Acrylix—it took amajor investment in personnel, high-end equipment, and years of testingand training to perfect the process. Scrapbooking, step by step

Step #1- Gather the Basic Scrapbooking Supplies

To get started, you will want to sit down with all your basic scrapbooking supplies.

The supplies you will need include:
1. 12" Paper Trimmer
2. Adhesive
3. Cardstock and Background & Texture Paper (I will refer to these as B&T)
4. Pen for journaling your comments, dates, names etc.
5. Your Photos
6. Layout design ideas- I will talk more about this next.
7. Embellishments

Once you have all your supplies on hand and easily accessible, you are ready to move on to step #2.

Step #2- Decide on the Scrapbook Page Design

Thisstep is key to your success and enjoyment of scrapbooking. Too manytimes people will sit down with their supplies and a pile of pictures don't know where to go from there.

Anyone can create a beautiful layouts when using one of our How-To books.

The books were all created by Jeanette Lynton, founder and CEO of Close To My Scrapbooking. She is an amazing artist and leader in the industry of scrapbooking.

The 3 books I use are:
1. Reflections
2. Imagine
3. Cherish

Step #3- Crop your Photos and Cut the Papers

Nowthat you have chosen your design, the next step is to begin preparingthe pieces you will need for the page. You will begin by laying downyour two 12x12 cardstock bases that you are going to build upon. Fromthere, begin cutting the Cardstock and B&T according to the designlayout you have chosen. Next, crop your photo's to thespecified sizes.

Once all of the cutting is done, lay down all the pieces onto thecarstock bases. It is like putting together a puzzle. This will helpyou to see if you have missed anything, cut anything to the wrong size(this does happen) or if you just don't like how any of it lookstogether.

Go back and adjust anything you need to adjust. If you are satisfied with it so far, then you are ready for the next step.

Step #4- Adhere Papers, Photos and Page Elements

Now that you have everything ready to go, the final step is to add adhesive and put it all together.

Use minimal adhesive...around the edges is sufficient...no need to cover the entire image in adhesive. People tend to use too much adhesive which can muck up the pages.

Next, dress your pages up with accessories...brads, stickers, fun flock, glitter, eyelets, ribbon...the possibilities are endless.

The last, and perhaps I would consider is the most important, add journalling to your page. Journalling can be shortor long, notating names, dates and places. Journaling is the final touch on the storyyou just shared.

See, You did it! And you thought you weren't creative! You can do it with a little help from Close to My Heart!

Kissing

The kissing technique is an artful way to create patterns and to get more use from your solid background stamps.

To use this technique:

Ink a texture stamp (one with lines, dots, etc.). Place it face up on your work surface.
Ink a solid stamp with a lighter color.
Press the solid stamp into the texture stamp so they "kiss" each other. The background stamp leaves a pattern on the solid tamp.
Stamp the combined image on cardstock. The result is a subtle or textured version of the solid stamp.

Coloring with Blending Pen and Chalk

A blending pen can be used to lighten colors or create a watercoloreffect. Using the pen to distribute colored chalk on a piece of artworkcan add a lovely soft, shaded look to any project.

To use this technique:

Touch the tip of a blending pen to a square of Soft Chalks to pull the color into the pen.
Beginningat any desired place on your artwork, press gently and let the colorflow as you shade the image. Add as much or as little color as youdesire.
Remember that your beginning point will always contain the strongest color.

Paper Piecing

Combining a variety of paper sizes, shapes, textures, and colors can lend great dimension and interest to any project.

To use this technique:

Determine the various colors you’ll need for your stamped image.
Stamp your image once on each of your chosen cardstock colors.
Using Micro-Tip scissors, cut out the different parts of your stamped image from the appropriate colors of paper.
Glue the image together, layer by layer, using the different color pieces.

Glitter Mist

Here is a technique that I borrowed from my "Grandma Upline", Tina Sutton--she is SO talented! This techique is called "Glitter Mist." The photo on the left is a 6 x 6 piece of Juniper Cardstock with a dimensional element sprayed with glitter mist on it.

The card pattern on the right is from Wishes, using the Jingle Paper. The dimensional element has glitter mist on it.

Directions for Glitter Mist:

Glitter Mist

1. Find an empty spray bottle.
2. Mix Pearl Paint, Rubbing Alcohol, re-inker of choice, and prisma glitter. Pour in spray bottle.
3. Spray background of card, dimensional element, or accent with glitter mist.
4. Let it dry for about 15 minutes and finish card.

Rock n Roll Stamping Technique

To use this technique:

Press your stamp into a light-colored ink pad.
Press only the edges of the stamp in a rolling motion on a darker-colored ink pad.
Be careful not to ink the center of the stamp.
Press the stamp firmly on your paper or project. (Do not rock on this part-just push straight down and up.)
Tip: Be sure to use the lighter color first to avoid inking the lighter pad with a darker color.
